On 23 August BusinessCar Magazine announced the winners of its
2011 Fleet Technology Awards, or Techies, and Cobra was awarded
Highly Commended in the Best Telematics System category for its
driver based insurance telematics technology.
The Techies aim to acknowledge companies and suppliers which
stand out for making fleet operation cheaper, green, safer and more
efficient and Cobra's telematics solution, to assist fleets in
managing driver behaviour, fuel consumption and duty of care
obligations, as well as reducing costs, impressed this year's
judges.
Cobra's driver based insurance telematics technology can be
fitted to HGVs, vans and cars via a small "black box" and measures
key outputs from a vehicle's journey in real time such as times and
distances, , mileage, average speed, top speed, vehicle location,
journey type, and driving dynamics such as acceleration and
deceleration.
"Cobra's innovative approach to the vehicle insurance market, an
area not renowned for its innovation, impressed the BusinessCar
Techie judges enough for it to warrant a Highly Commended award,"
says Paul Barker, Editor, BusinessCar. "The technology is designed
to help responsible fleets trim their insurance bills and better
manage their vehicles, both vital areas of importance in the
current climate."
Cobra's technology already powers three consumer driver based
insurance packages, including:
- Pay How You Drive - the better your driving the lower your
premiums
- Pay As You Drive - based on the time, distance and location of
journeys covered by the driver
- Pay Per Use - premiums are based on a driver's mileage
"This year we are really directing our telematics solutions
towards the fleet industry, recognising the benefits our technology
can give to fleet managers to reduce costs of insurance, and
improve driver behaviour in addition to proactively encouraging
training and best practice techniques," says Andrew Smith, Managing
Director, Cobra UK. "Receiving this accolade from BusinessCar has
come at an opportune time for us and we are delighted to be
recognised for our innovation in the fleet arena."
The telematics technology from Cobra offers a fresh approach to
monitoring driver behaviour and is web-based allowing fleet
operators to see driver mileage, speed and vehicle location. This
has a host of benefits, including managing business and personal
mileage, flagging up persistent 'speedy' drivers to ensure
appropriate training can be pursued and ultimately saving
businesses money on fuel and helping them meet their duty of care
obligations.
